Welcome to my website

I hope you enjoy browsing through my Quilt Gallery and finding out about my work. My first love is making art quilts, but I also enjoy other textile related arts and the freedom of dabbling with new techniques.

Right now, I'm exploring recycling textiles.

Enjoy!

Glitzy Quilts : New book by Annette Morgan
With this new book on CD, I show you how to make your quilts sparkle. There are many techniques for you to try, such as:

  • Dyeing in the microwave
  • 3D paint
  • Using a soldering iron and foils
  • Making beads
  • Using sheer fabrics and plastics
  • And other ways of adding glitzy texture.

This is appliqué for the contemporary quilter.

You can order copies of Glitzy Quilts on CD from the publisher, Rainbow Disks.

A bit of a bio
I come from a family of needlewomen, but it was my father who taught me to knit and sew. In my early career as a theatre nurse, sewing remained a recreation. But after achieving my City and Guilds qualification in 1992, quilting and textile art became my vocation - and my passion. Since then, my feet have hardly touched the ground!

Blessed with some honours and publications

I've won a number of British and international awards and have exhibited in Japan, America and Europe, as well as various UK events. My quilts have been featured in all of the major British patchwork publications and I've written several articles for The Quilter - the journal of The Quilters' Guild of The British Isles. In 2003, I was included in the book Inspiration To Stitch by Bailey Curtis, which profiled the work of six textile artists.

My proudest achievement has been serving as President of The Quilters' Guild of The British Isles from 2001 to 2003. It was an exciting period of change for The Guild. Our new logo symbolised our new, modern image. And we launched a major new event - The Festival of Quilts, in partnership with Twisted Thread.

  Teaching and Workshops

As a qualified teacher [Cert Ed – Anglia Ruskin University] I teach freelance both in the UK and abroad. I’ve taught City and Guilds courses for the last seven years [both Part 1 and Diploma] at Otley College in Suffolk and Brickworks in Cambridge. Sadly many C & G courses are closing due to Government funding being withdrawn from Adult Education.

However a new City and Guilds course Part 1 [7922] will be starting in September 2007, based at Quilter’s Haven near Woodbridge in Suffolk. I am delighted to be teaching this course and anyone one who is interested in studying for the Diploma [7923] - you will need to have completed Part 1 - contact me and, if enough people are interested, we may start this course in the next two years.

Since September 2006 I have been invited to be tutor and mentor to new group Out of the Fold, who are students who have completed a City and Guilds Diploma or gained a similar qualification. Again for information about this group please contact me.

As a qualified Quilt Judge I am one of three tutors on the Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles Quilt course, and part of the QGBIs Quilt Judging team.
